White Plains, NY (August 2018) The Hudson Gateway REALTOR® Foundation, the charitable arm of the Hudson Gateway Association of REALTORS®, recently presented a check for $2,500 to Furniture Sharehouse in White Plains. Furniture Sharehouse provides free furniture to economically disadvantaged individuals and families living in Westchester County, giving them the basic household furnishings that enable them to rebuild their lives and live with dignity.
Furniture Sharehouse clients are referred by member social service agencies and include those moving out of homeless shelters into permanent housing, women and children escaping domestic violence, working families in need, young adults aging our of foster care and victims of fires of other natural disasters. Since opening in 2007, the organization has served over 4,500 households, 13,000 individuals and has distributed more than 71,000 items with a total value of $4.1 million.
“We are so grateful to the Hudson Gateway Realtor Foundation for its support,” said Kate Bialo, Executive Director of Furniture Sharehouse. “Every year in Westchester, many are forced to live without even the most essential household furnishings because after paying for rent and food, they have no money to buy the basic furniture that many of us take for granted.”
Established in 2004 and relaunched in 2013, the HG REALTOR® Foundation has donated thousands of dollars to charities and non-profits throughout the Hudson Valley.
